IDEAL-LIVING HELPS READERS
FIND THEIR IDEAL PLACE
ON THE MOVE
By Kelly Godbey
While living in Atlanta, GA, Sharon and
decided it was time to
make a move. Even
though Herb (age 71)
was more than ready to
find a new place, Sharon ( 61) wasn’t quite
ready, but they decided
to go for it. Sharon said,
“You can’t take anything for granted. I
want to make sure that
we live our remaining years together having a fun, fun time. We both
worked hard all of our lives and it’s time to enjoy the
fruits of our labors.
“We started receiving Ideal-LIVING magazine and
then went to the Expo. One of the best things ever was
going to a presentation [Choose Your Ideal Place semi-
nar] at the Ideal-LIVING Expo where the presenter
talked about choosing where you wanted to live for
probably the rest of your life. We got a Choose Your
Ideal Place Guide and map. I filled out a questionnaire
(and so did my husband) about the things you were
looking for in your next community and we found out
there were different things that each of us wanted. It re-
ally helped us narrow our options. The Ideal-LIVING
process worked perfectly for us.
“For the next three months we collected materials,
then we organized them by mountains, beach, etc. Then
we decided which communities we wanted to schedule
a discovery weekend with. We visited a few communities in April and June and decided on Compass Pointe.
We couldn’t be happier and we are very excited to start
our new life.
“According to our Realtor, we couldn’t have picked
a better time. Our Realtor told us, ‘Two years ago, you
couldn’t have gotten near as much for your home, but
now it’s likely that there will be a bidding war for your
home here in Atlanta.’”
Only 10 minutes from historic downtown Wilmington, North Carolina, you’ll find the fast-growing community of Compass Pointe. In 2016, they opened a new golf course in addition to their already popular
amenities that include the Grand Lanai Amenities Center, a fitness center, dog park, walking trails, tennis
and basketball courts, and much more. Here’s how two couples found their new life in Compass Pointe.
Gary and Stephanie Hanson moved to Compass Pointe in August 2015 from
Long Island, NY. Gary said, “It all started with Ideal-LIVING.
“We immediately fell in love with Compass Pointe. I was retired and Stephanie
was thinking about retiring. We had been receiving the Ideal-LIVING magazine and
went to an Expo, and then we visited Wilmington in April of 2015. Our house sold so
quickly in Long Island, that we rented a house while our house in Compass Pointe was
“We were tired of the snow. New York isn’t the best place for retired people with
the taxes. Living here in Compass Pointe, the people are great! Everyone is displaced
from somewhere else. The majority of the people come from the Northeast, so we all
become each other’s family. Everyone gets along so well.
“I happily gave my snow shovel to my neighbor. It’s a much more pleasurable life-
style – the traffic isn’t as bad, the people are friendly, the environment is beautiful,
and the weather is second to none. We are happy here.”
