The renovation and revitalization of the Wilmington historic area
occurred since the 1960s. The Wilmington Historic Foundation was
founded in 1966 and saved over 100 historic properties from demolition.
The oldest home, The Mitchell-Anderson House, was built in 1731. Walk
the cobblestone streets along the river and experience the area’s history
and culture. You can also take a horse-drawn carriage or trolley tour of
this historically significant area.
Thalian Hall, built in 1858, is one of the most significant theatres in
the United States and has been in almost continuous use since it first
opened. Last year, it hosted more than 250 shows, events and films ranging from theatre to music to ballet to domestic and foreign films.
Downtown Historic Wilmington, NC is the perfect place to enjoy history, culture and fine cuisine.
