Love of the Outdoors Louis and Sheri Lane Lakes of Cane Bay • Summerville, SC
Summerville is an exceptionally fast-growing area just 25
minutes from historic downtown Charleston, SC. It’s close
enough to enjoy all that Charleston has to o;er, yet far enough
away to avoid all of the hustle and bustle.
Relocating for milder winters and the ability to enjoy the outdoors, Louis and Sheri Lane moved from Northern Virginia
to Summerville in January of this year. ;ey lived in a K Hovnanian community in Virginia, and liked it so much that they
moved to another K Hovnanian community, Lakes of Cane Bay,
in the Summerville area.
;ey immediately fell in love. “In January, we were in shorts
sitting on the porch, drinking co;ee,” said Sheri. “We are
simple people. We love the outdoors. We make a goal each
week to try something new. We go to the beach at least twice
a week, and try to mix it up by going to di;erent beaches. It’s
beautiful to see the marsh as you are driving to nearby islands,
like Kiawah, Folly Beach, or the Isle of Palms. We enjoy hiking
and also kayaking along the beautiful lakes at Cane Bay.”
For the Fourth of July this year, they watched the ;reworks
over the Cooper River with the Ravenel Bridge in the back-
ground. “We took a tour from the waterways from the Charles-
ton Marina. We saw Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, and Sullivan’s Is-
land right from a boat.”
“Of course Charleston is an eating town, and they have some
of the best food you can imagine,” Sheri said. Even though there
is no need to go to Charleston with all of the restaurants in
Summerville (including farm-to-table and franchises), they still
like to go into the downtown area for dinner and festivals.
;e Lanes are some of the ;rst homeowners at ;e Lakes of
Cane Bay, and they have found it easy to meet new people, even
at the beginning stages of the community’s development.
;e social director keeps the residents active by organizing
activities like the ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out) and
