As Tavistock Group describes it, “every facet of Lake Nona inspires
healthy living, encourages life-long learning, embraces technology,
and emphasizes sustainability.” James “Jim” Zboril, president of
Orlando-based Tavistock Development Company, has managed the
metamorphosis of Lake Nona into its current state.
While Lake Nona is certainly taking the lead in creating health care
hubs as a means to attract a richer place for residents to live, work, and
play, a number of other master-planned communities are adopting
the same philosophy.
North Carolina Communities Committed to Health Care
In the fast-growing Wilmington, NC, area, Brunswick Forest, a
4,500-acre mixed-use, master-planned community located in Leland,
places a high-premium on having medical care at the “community’s
front door.” In some cases, it’s literally via a network of paths and trails
from one’s home via golf cart.
For example, one of the area’s leading medical networks, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, has a 40,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art medical building in the heart of ;e Villages at Brunswick

Next up could be Duke University, which has been exploring the
mutual bene;ts of complementary clinical services and value-based

Elsewhere in the Carolinas, the Cli;s Communities, a highly
acclaimed network of seven private club communities in the Blue
Ridge Mountains between Greenville, SC, and Asheville, NC, has
plans for a number of new medical and health care facilities. In the
works is ;e Dental Retreat in the Village at Mountain Park as well as
a proposed assisted living center.
Nearby hospitals include nationally-ranked health care systems.
Asheville’s Mission Hospital, near Walnut Cove, is a Top 15 Health
System and was recently rated the best in North Carolina and among
the top 1 percent in the country. It’s also a top 50 cardiovascular hospital and has won numerous other recognitions. Greenville Health
