Lifelong Learning Opportunities
Myrtle Beach’s higher education
facilities are Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical
College in nearby Conway. The area
is also home to a branch of Webster
University, an MBA graduate school,
and NAIA, a flight school, and private
schools of various sizes and objectives.
Medical Facilities
The major hospital and medical
center in Myrtle Beach is the Grand
Strand Regional Medical Center. Other hospitals or medical centers near
Myrtle Beach are the Conway Hospital,
about 15 miles away in Conway, SC,
the Loris Community Hospital, about
19 miles distant in Loris, SC, and the
Georgetown Memorial Hospital, about
39 miles away in Georgetown, SC.
mental Education Center offers a wide
variety of programming, including the
chance to see loggerhead turtles and
other endangered plant and animal spe-
cies. Its freshwater lake is a perfect place
to spy alligators and sometimes even a
reclusive mink. The park’s popular pro-
gram gives visitors an opportunity to see
some of our endangered creatures up
close and become more involved. Much
of Huntington Beach Park’s marsh is
now registered under the South Caro-
lina Heritage Trust Program to help
preserve its unusually pristine nature.
A movement to spread environmentally friendly building and living practices has taken root at Coastal Carolina
University and is spreading to other parts
of the Grand Strand. CCU has pledged
to use LEED (Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design). LEED programs assure that sound environmental
practices will be used when renovating
or constructing new buildings.
