Imagine yourself returning home after the vacation of a lifetime. Your mind is relaxed and refreshed. The ambiance was perfect, exactly the right blend of el- egance and sophistication, leisure and excitement. Wow, you say to yourself dreamily, if only I owned a piece of this kind of paradise.
Then, suddenly, it dawns on you that, with the recent real
estate rebound and the savings you’ve accumulated, maybe
you can. In fact, why not take the plunge, reawaken the dream
of buying a little piece of heaven to visit now and then, and
actually make money as it rents to other people when you’re
not using it?
My family spent three years living the expat life in one of
the retirement hotspots, Cuenca, Ecuador, but there are hundreds to choose from as evidenced by the tens of thousands
of Americans who have taken up the International life style in
the last few years. As an expat who has done it, let me share
some ideas about making an investment abroad, a venture
that you can enjoy from time to time and maybe even retire
to in your later years.
